Information on the test
The Regulation for "Language Proficiency Requirements", requires good proficiency in aviation related English language in order to obtain the English radiotelephony certification. Pilots wanting to fly abroad or in IFR rules in Italy, must demonstrate to have an English language proficiency that reaches at least ICAO level 4, as prescribed in ICAO doc. 9835. This proficiency level needs to be reported on the pilot's licence. The language proficiency certifications are to be renewed periodically (not for level 6), depending on the level obtained (level 4 has 5 years' duration, level 5 has 6 years' duration).

Aviomar is approved as a test centre for the ELPE test (administered internally by Aviomar Flight Academy) by ENAC/EASA.

Test Information
An ENAC recognised test of English in order to satisfy ICAO and EASA standards for pilots and controllers

How long does the test take?
Approximately 25 minutes.

Where can I take the test?
At our training centres in Rome Urbe and Monterotondo.

How does the ELP test work?

ELP tests are a face-to-face interview with an examiner and consist of three sections:

Section One Introduction

The candidate is asked a series of questions on common, concrete and work-related topics relating to his/her aviation background.

Section Two Interactive Comprehension

Candidates listen to different aviation-specific recordings of non-routine and emergency situations. Candidates are required to explain what they understand about the situation and interact by asking questions and giving advice.

Section Three Description and Discussion

Candidates are presented with a series of aviation-related images and are asked to describe and compare what they see. The examiner will then ask further questions related to the images.

The test is recorded and evaluated within 48 hours.

ELP Test certificates are digitally signed and sent to the candidate via email.

Who evaluates the test?
Our examiners, tests are normally double rated by a second examiner.

Who has to take the test?
All pilots in possess of English radiotelephony privileges (and those wishing to obtain such privileges) in order to fly abroad and in IFR.

How to proceed to take the ELP test?
You can register for the test by filling out the form aside and selecting the preferred test date. You will be contacted by our staff for the confirmation.

UK CAA licensed pilots are requested to inform the examiner prior to starting the test.

How much does the test cost?
€147,00 (ELPE).
Pre-test €145,00 (during the pre-test no test material is used).

Can I appeal if I’m not satisfied with my result?
Certainly, appeals must be made to the centre in writing no later than one month after certificates have been dispatched. The "Appeal" process allows the candidate who thinks his test has not been evaluated correctly, to obtain another evaluation. In this case a different examiner will listen to the test recording and rate it again. The request needs to be forwarded to the training centre in written no longer than one month after having received the test results. This procedure will require the payment as if it were a new test, and this amount will be refunded only if the second evaluation results in a higher score than the original one. In case of equal or lower rates than the original, the first rating will remain confirmed and no refund will be given.

Can I repeat the test?
Yes, the test can be repeated at any time and no minimum time is required to pass between exam dates. A new test can be taken also if the cadidate is not satisfied with his result.

In both cases a new registration must be done and the entire test price must be paid.
